Job Overview
This position is full time and is an exciting opportunity to have influence in the lives of 6th to 12th graders. The youth minister oversees a group of college volunteers, a highly supportive parent base, works collaboratively on the Church staff to ensure biblical teaching, and cultivate a Christ-centered environment for students to grow in their faith.
Roles and Responsibilities
Leadership & Teaching
- Oversee the high school and middle school ministries
- Supervise Small Group college leaders and provide on-going ministry and spiritual training
- Supervise teachers for Youth Sunday School; review curricula to ensure it is biblically sound and that it meets the discipleship needs of youth
- With your intern & college leaders, plan Sunday night programs with a healthy mixture of Biblical teaching, small group discussions, games, etc.
- Plan, coordinate, and lead: mission trips; rising 6th grade summer activity; youth fall/winter retreats; SLT retreat; other youth activities (service days, summer events, etc.)
- Plan semester program and activities calendar.
Administration
- Attend bi-monthly Leadership Board/Ministry Council meetings; bi-weekly Staff meetings and one-on-one meetings with supervisor when needed
- Oversee the administrative needs of the Youth Ministry (e.g., weekly parent emails; youth database; record finances for all events; set and adhere to ministry budget, etc.)
- Develop and maintain creative communication with youth parents and the church as a whole (e.g. announcements in Church newsletter, pictures on the bulletin board, etc.)
- Family care
- Develop and nurture on-going relationships with parents of youth and youth ministry volunteers
- Counsel youth and parents of youth
Qualifications
- Is a committed follower of Jesus Christ.
- Demonstrates Christian character in how you talk, serve & post online, both professionally & personally.
- Accepts and thrives on coaching and instruction, promptly taking care of any assignments given by the Pastor.
- Functions as part of a team, rather than a lone ministry ranger.
- High School degree; College degree or "in-process" in a related field (e.g., teaching, social work, counseling, etc.) preferred.
- Minimum one year's experience in leading youth activities; 2 years preferred.
- Ability to organize programs and activities and to manage responsibilities with a minimum of supervision and follow-up.
